Dolphin Lovers,
Captain Dave Beezer ran the the Condor Express up and down the island shelf break looking for wildlife today and closely observed the following:
2000 Short-Beaked Common Dolphins
50 Long-Beaked Common Dolphins
Sea Lions
Sea Lions
Harbor Seal (at Santa Cruz Island)
Mola mola (juv. - breached)
Calm conditions and great dolphins today. The first group of 50 Long Beaks featured a pale colored adult male (not quite an albino, but very pale). This boy had plenty of libido and the XX-rated show, in crystal blue clear water, was educational if not a bit embarassing. About an hour later we came up on a megapod of Short Beaks. They were highly animated as always. Leaping, breaching, twisting and turning...in and out of the waves...an amazing display for sure! I'll post up my photos of this special Day of the Dolphins later this week, asap.
