A gorgeous day on the Channel today.  The mighty Gray Whales continue their southward march to preserve the species.  The Condor Express was there again today to witness the natural spectacle,  and this is what we saw today:

Cetacean Sightings - Sunday Jan 23

Nature Lovers,

 It was another bright, sunny day full of cetaceans out in the Santa Barbara Channel today!  The east winds had the southern half of the Channel a bit whipped up, but did not deter good sightings.  And this is what the Condor Expressly saw today:

40 Risso's Dolphins 

100 California Sea Lions
1 Peregrine Falcon

Sat Jan 22 -- Whale and Dolphin Report

Nature Lovers,

 It was another bright, beautiful and flat calm sunny day full of cetaceans out in the Santa Barbara Channel today!  And this is what the Condor Expressly saw today:
 
5+ Gray Whales 
150+ Risso's Dolphins 

150 California Sea Lions

 

We watched 5 whales closely, and 2 of them for about an hour.  These 2 whales were rolling and tumbling all around, sideways and upside down, seemingly playing with the abundant Risso's Dolphins.  In addition to these 5 that we watched, there were numerous spouts in the area.  The Risso's were also spread out over a large region and although we watched at least 150 closely, many, many more were out in the periphery.

It was a bright and sunny day full of cetaceans out in the Santa Barbara Channel today!  And this is what the Condor Expressly saw today:

The Rolling Gray Whale - Sun Jan 9

Greetings Whale Afficianados,

 
Another wonderful day full of cetaceans!  And this is what the Condor Expressly saw today:

 

1 Gray Whale - rolling and tumbling 
35 Risso's Dolphins
lots of young California Sea Lions 

 
We came upon a crazy Gray Whale that was rolling around, as if "playing" with Risso's Dolphins and California Sea Lions all around it.  It showed us its pectoral fins, its belly and did some "reverse" spy hopping...chin and neck out of the water upside down!  Really great to see.  I'll post the images online at:  www.CondorExpressPhotos.com  by Tuesday night.

Happy New Year!!!

 

Captain Dave and the crew steered the mighty Condor Express up into the Santa Cruz Channel with hopes of intersecting some southbound migrating Gray Whales.  Success was had !!

Here are today's sightings:
5 Gray Whales
25 Risso's Dolphins (some actually did some bow riding!)
a few young California Sea Lions
and the Painted Cave with its rainy season waterfall still pouring down
